Apple is reportedly preparing a notable redesign for its next iPad Pro lineup, aiming to solve a long-standing user complaint: awkward camera placement. According to a report from Bloomberg, cited by Engadget, the upcoming iPad Pro could be the first Apple tablet to feature two front-facing cameras—one on the landscape edge and another on the portrait edge.
The change comes in response to feedback following the 2024 redesign, where Apple moved the selfie camera to the landscape side to better accommodate video calls. However, that shift compromised the portrait experience. Rather than undo the landscape placement, Apple appears set to add a second front camera to offer users the best of both orientations.
This dual-camera setup could vastly improve usability in both personal and professional settings, especially in a time where video calls, hybrid work, and content creation dominate tablet usage.
M5 Chip to Debut in iPad Pro Before Mac
Alongside the camera upgrades, the next iPad Pro is expected to debut Apple’s next-generation M5 chip, according to sources cited by LiveMint. This would mark the iPad’s second major hardware leap in as many years, following the launch of the OLED-equipped, M4-powered model in May 2024.
Notably, Apple is reportedly planning to introduce the M5 chip first on the iPad, ahead of future Mac models that would receive the same processor sometime in early 2026. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo projects that production of the M5 iPad Pro will commence in the first half of 2025, with a launch window likely between September and October 2025, coinciding with Apple’s annual fall event.
This move further blurs the line between tablet and laptop, reinforcing Apple’s push to position the iPad Pro as a high-performance computing device rather than just a media tablet.
