Nearly 70 local election officials across key battleground states in the United States have aligned themselves with former President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims of a stolen election, raising concerns about the integrity of the upcoming November elections. Independent journalist Justin Glawe, who created the American Doom newsletter, highlighted these concerns in an exclusive report for Rolling Stone titled “These Swing State Election Officials Are Pro-Trump Election Deniers.”

Glawe’s investigation identified almost 70 pro-Trump authorities, including county election board officials from states such as Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Nevada. These officials, many of whom hold appointed rather than elected positions, have either refused to certify past election results or have openly supported election conspiracy theories on social media.

The Potential Impact on Election Integrity

Glawe explained that the election certification process is typically a routine, administrative task, with little room for discretion by local officials. However, the involvement of these pro-Trump officials could disrupt the election certification process. He warned that while courts would likely strike down any mass refusals to certify election results, the real danger lies in the potential erosion of public trust in the electoral process. Glawe emphasized that this decentralized network of pro-Trump Republicans, operating within local election boards, could cause significant damage by sowing doubt about the legitimacy of the elections.

Call for Vigilance and Concerns for Future Elections

To counter this threat, Glawe urged American voters to closely monitor their county election boards, particularly the individuals staffing these boards. He stressed the importance of ensuring that election deniers are not in positions of power where they can influence the election certification process. President Joe Biden also expressed his concerns about the potential for election disruption in his first cable interview since exiting the 2024 presidential race.

Biden highlighted the possibility of a contested election result and voiced his lack of confidence in a peaceful transfer of power if Trump were to lose again. He pointed to the actions of GOP officials in local election districts as a key factor in his concerns, underscoring the need for vigilance and proactive measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
