Choosing to move property is stressful but enjoyable at the same time. It can be a lot of fun viewing different properties and imagining if you are going to live there or not – where will the children’s room be? What room will be for the office? Which bedroom will be yours? Etc.
When moving, there are a few considerations that you should make before choosing the property you are moving to. The condition of the building is important as you may need to make some repairs when you move in, or may need external people to come in, like a Chimney Sweep. The location is very important and it’s arguably the most important thing as well as future developments to the property – are you able to extend into the garden, as an example?
Here Are the 3 Things to Consider When Choosing to Move Property:
1. The condition of the property
When viewing any property, it’s important to keep in mind the condition of it. Ask the estate agent as many questions about the condition and ensure they show you around the hidden parts of the building. If you can, it’s always worth asking the current owner about the property as you don’t want any hidden costs to bite you when you move in. Some old buildings may need the roof replaced or new tiles installed, whilst some properties may need new windows or a new door. It’s best to put a spreadsheet together so you can track everything and have a good idea of the costs involved if you go for that property.
2. The location of the property
Location is very important as you will be living there for hopefully a long time. When moving in, you want to be happy that the location of the property is safe and it ticks all the boxes for what you would need in the future. Things to consider include: Is the property near good schools? Do you have local cafes you can visit? Are there nice walking routes around? What sports clubs are local and do you have a local gym, etc?
3. Future developments of the property
What developments can you make to the property in the future? This is very important as you don’t want to outgrow the property as time goes by. Does it have a garage that you can convert into a room? Is there room to add a conservatory to the back of the property? What’s the size of the attic like and could you build upwards? Is there space for a porch to be added? Can you increase the size of the bathroom and will it fit a special mirror in it? These are all considerations that you should be thinking about before choosing to make an offer for the properties you are viewing.
