Kim Kardashian Paris robbery case brings symbolic damages

The ruling comes nearly 10 years after masked robbers entered Kardashian’s hotel room during Paris Fashion Week, held her at gunpoint and stole millions of dollars in jewelry. The court last year convicted eight people for their roles in the robbery.

Kardashian, who was 36 at the time, had asked the court for €1 in damages. The amount was awarded by the Paris court Tuesday, according to a lawyer involved in the case who spoke to The Associated Press.

In a joint statement with her stylist, Simone Harouche, Kardashian said the ruling focused on recognition of the harm rather than money.

“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us,” Kardashian and Harouche said. “Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.”

The court also awarded Harouche €1. She was present during the robbery and had requested the same symbolic amount.

A former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian was staying, received €109,516 ($126,472), according to his lawyer. The receptionist had sought €550,000 in damages and interest after saying the robbery left him traumatized.

His lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, welcomed the award and described the decision as a victory, according to the Associated Press. The hotel itself received €50,000 in damages.

The different awards reflected the individual claims made in the civil proceedings. Kardashian and Harouche each sought only €1, while the receptionist pursued a larger financial claim for the harm he said he suffered.

Kim Kardashian Paris robbery took place during Fashion Week

The robbery occurred Oct. 2, 2016, at the Hôtel de Pourtalès while Kardashian was in Paris for Fashion Week. Men disguised as police officers entered her room, restrained her, and stole jewelry worth more than $6 million, including an engagement ring valued at about $4 million.

Kardashian later testified about the ordeal during the 2025 criminal trial. She described it as “the most terrifying experience of my life,” according to the Associated Press.

The convicted group became known in France as the “Grandpa Robbers” because several defendants were in their 60s and 70s when they were tried. Eight people were convicted, and none returned to prison because they had already spent time in pretrial detention.

Kardashian and Harouche said they were grateful to the French justice system and hoped to move forward after the ruling.

“We hope to now move forward and continue to heal,” they said.
